CREM PUBLICATION
Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who may submit papers to CREM?

You may submit a personal essay to CREM if you completed the essay before finishing secondary school (grades 9-12). The paper must be submitted in English and may not have been previously published except in a publication of a secondary school that you attended. Public school, private school, and home school students are all eligible.

2. May I submit more than one paper?

Yes! CREM’s mission is to encourage and support secondary school students to share their stories while improving their skills and confidence. We love hearing students’ stories! As such, if you have more stories that you would like to share, obtain quality feedback from qualified editors, and potentially gain recognition for, you are encouraged to submit multiple essays.

Each essay must be accompanied by a submission fee.

200,000 KRW (for both bank wire transfer and credit cards)

3. May I submit a paper that is more than 650 words?

No. At this time, we are requiring all entrants to adhere to our 650-word limit. While you may submit a piece that is less than 650 words, any submissions over 650 words will be returned unread along with the entrants’ submission fee, minus a 10% administration charge.

4. Is there a particular topic or prompt that I should take into consideration?

We welcome essays on all topics.

5.  What is the deadline for submitting my essay?

There is no deadline. We are always open to submissions.

6. What happens if I'm selected for publication?

Once your essay has been selected and you have completed our verification process, CREM will schedule your piece for publication and you will be notified about the anticipated date of appearance. You will receive another notification once the issue you are featured in is live.

CREM publishes our exemplary essays on a quarterly basis: on 1 April, 1 July, 1 October, and 1 January.

7. Will I hear if my paper is not used in the next issue?

Yes. When we return our evaluation, we will let you know if you are eligible for publication.

8. I'm a teacher/school submitting a group of essays and paying with one credit card from the school. What do I do?

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate multiple simultaneous submissions at this time. For administrative purposes, each essay must be submitted individually.

9. Can I pay by check?

No. Payment must be made via bank wire transfer or a major credit card.

10. How do I confirm that my essay was uploaded/received?
